Overview

We provide comprehensive anaesthesia care to the patient, render anaesthesia service in areas outside the operation theatre such as Pain Service, I.C.U., I.C.C.U., Emergency & Trauma Care, Labour Analgesia, Impart training to medical & Paramedical & others in Basic Life Support & Advance Cardiac Life Support. The department excels in the specialized field of Anaesthesiology, Critical Care, Medicine & comprehensive pain management and impart value based education to the students to create environment for their social & spiritual development. Department of Anaesthesiology conducted continued educational programmes (CME) & activities to keep up with the changing trends in the field of Anaesthesiology & strive to be the top Anaesthesiology department in the country and to get global recognition.

SERVICE

Our ability to provide the highest quality of care is facilitated by having access to the best anaesthetic machines and equipment as well as a complete assortment of pharmacological tools. All areas are equally equipped with latest state of art technology. The department has modern anaesthesia machines with ventilators and monitors like electrocardiograph, pulse oximeters, capnographs, respiratory gas monitors as well as BIS monitors. In addition, there are facilities available for invasive monitoring like Arterial Blood Pressure and cardiac output which are helpful in handling critically ill patients and those coming for complicated major surgical procedures. All Operation Rooms are equipped with Infusion pumps which help deliver the exact rate and amount of drugs to patients during the surgical procedure. Patient warming devices like warming blankets and fluid warmers, rapid infusion devices are also available for use.

We use both general and regional anesthetic techniques either alone or in combination. Regional anesthesia is provided by a single shot or catheter techniques and is provided by using the latest in block placement techniques.

After surgery, patients are monitored in a modern well equipped postoperative recovery care unit by specially trained nursing staff under the guidance of the Anesthesiologists. Those who need more intense monitoring for a longer period of time are shifted to the critical care unit for further management.

We run an Acute Pain Service for acute and immediate postoperative pain management of indoor patients. This is managed by a group of anesthesiology consultants along with dedicated nursing support staff.

ANESTHESIA CLINICS

Our department runs a specialized Preoperative Assessment Clinic. We also evaluate patients preoperatively the day before surgery. Our involvement in preoperative assessment is designed to evaluate, optimize and minimize the risk to the patient.

MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

The department is academically active and all staff participates in the teaching program. We supervise research projects. We conduct the Trauma Life Support (TLS) course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course and other focused workshops in the hospital. We regularly organize CMEs and conferences at local, national and international levels.

We practice audits within our department to ensure that we are delivering the highest quality of care.
